When only the LCD is broken
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CRACKED SCREEN & BROKEN LCD SCREEN
LCD is broken – The LCD is the third layer on the iPhone, after the glass and the digitizer.
If the LCD screen appears white or discoloured, with lines or shapes across the screen, that means the LCD is damaged.
This is damaged caused by pressure or it is dropped or impact to the screen from an external source. But please don’t put your iPhone into your back pocket because the LCD can be broken this way too.
Broken LCD Screens
Shattered Glass
If your iPhone glass is shattered there will be cracks or chips on the screen itself. But if it is just the glass that is damaged, the device may still function and you may be able to use it normally.
So, if this is the case, it is likely that only the glass needs to be replaced. To prevent further damage to your device it is best to get it repaired quickly. For example, if liquids seep through the cracks it could cause permanent damage to the LCD.
Touchscreen Doesn’t Work
Many people may continue to use their touchscreen with shattered glass and delay fixing the glass on their devices. But if the touchscreen isn’t responsive, it could be a sign of more significant damage to the device’s digitizer which is integrated with the LCD screen.
Pixelated Screen
A pixelated screen can indicate LCD damage. This would look like a patch of multi-coloured dots, a line or lines of discoloration, or a screen with rainbow colours. For many people, these colours are an easy way to know that their LCD is broken and that they should get it repaired.
